Vacuum Pump Stations
Problems
Mostly all of our problems with the vacuum system are "hung valves". This means one or more of the vacuum valves used for sewage collection is not working properly and did not close allowing too much air to enter the system, This is where the extra vacuum pumps are used to maintain that pressure differential needed to make the vacuum system work until our maintenance staff can find and correct the problem. An alarm system is used to monitor and alert the office when there is a problem. All of SCCLSD's major pump stations and some of the minor pump stations have alarm systems. The rest have flashing red lights to acknowledge a problem. Another problem with the vacuum valves can be that a valve does not open, thus not removing the sewage and causing a homeowner to experience their facilities to back-up. The only way we know of this problem is for the homeowner to call the Sewer District Office at 664-9727.
Power Outages
To eliminate the problem of a power outage, SCCLSD has standby
emergency generators installed at all the vacuum pumping stations (and all
other major pumping stations, too) that automatically switch from utility
power to generator power so there is no interruption in service.
