Gravity Pump Stations

The pumps used for this can vary, both in size and in style. SCCLSD uses both Dry Pit Pumps and Submersible Pumps.

. .

Dry Pit Pumps mean that the pump is installed in a separate area and connected to the wet well with piping. Submersible pumps are installed directly in the wet well.

The level of the sewage in the wet well is monitored either with floats or a pressure sensor or some other means, and when the level is high enough; the pump starts and begins to empty the wet well. When a set lower level is reached, the pump turns off.

As with Vacuum Pump Stations, all of the major Gravity Pump Stations have an alarm system and standby emergency generators.
